Influence of glycaemic index on subjective appetite responses in healthy adults

چکیده
The glycaemic index (GI) of carbohydrate foods is a useful tool for predicting postprandial glucose and insulin responses(1). Results from human studies suggest an inverse relationship between GI ingested food appetite responses(2). However, evidence on the effects subjective objective satiety responses inconclusive(3). Therefore, aim this study was to assess impact response in humans. We conducted randomised controlled crossover trial 13 adults presenting with normoglycaemia, normal BMI mean age 28.7 ± 6.6 years. Participants were randomly allocated consume high meal (HGI) consisting mashed potatoes, low (LGI) canned whole chickpeas, each providing 50 g total available carbohydrates, after overnight fast. Postprandial captured using visual analogue scale (VAS) 3 domains: hunger, fullness, prospective intake. Plasma ghrelin values also measured by immunoassay (intra-assay variations < 15%), venous blood samples collected over hours following breakfast area under curves (AUCs) calculated trapezoidal method, data analysed t-test statistical significance set at p 0.05. Data are presented as SD. There great observed individual intake both interventions all outcomes illustrated above. hunger significantly lower ingestion LGI (91.2 37.1 mm × h) comparison HGI (113.5 26 (p = 0.035); fullness higher demonstrated AUC hour period (107.3 (80.2 24.7 0.012) respectively. there no significant difference different meals (104.6 41.9 (126.2 26.3 h), In addition, differences > 0.05). The results that positively affects response. hormone unclear possibly due variances hormonal responses.

Glycaemic index, appetite and body weight.
Much interest has been focused on the relationship between glycaemic index and body-weight loss, some of which is fueled by popular media. However, there is a number of potential mechanisms that could be triggered by reducing the glycaemic index of the carbohydrate consumed in the diet. For example, the effect of foods on the gastrointestinal tract and the effect on blood glucose both could lea...
متن کاملThe influence of maternal glycaemia and dietary glycaemic index on pregnancy outcome in healthy mothers.
Infant birth weight has increased in Ireland in recent years along with levels of childhood overweight and obesity. The present article reviews the current literature on maternal glycaemia and the role of the dietary glycaemic index (GI) and its impact on pregnancy outcomes. It is known that maternal weight and weight gain significantly influence infant birth weight. Fetal macrosomia (birth wei...
متن کاملInfluence of glycemic index/load on glycemic response, appetite, and food intake in healthy humans.
OBJECTIVE High glycemic index (GI)/load (GL) diets reportedly enhance appetite and promote positive energy balance. Support for this hypothesis stems largely from acute feeding trials and longer-term studies lacking control over the macronutrient composition and palatability of test foods. This study evaluated the effects of consuming high- and low-GI/GL meals, matched on macronutrient composit...
متن کاملGlycaemic Index and Load of Dietetic Sour Cherry Jam Prepared with Date Syrup in Healthy Persons
Background & Aims: Date syrup is a natural sweetener rich in antioxidants. In addition, fructose is the predominant sugar in date syrup, which elevates blood glucose at a slower pace than the other types of sugar. The objective of this study was to evaluate the glycemic response of healthy persons to dietetic sour cherry jam prepared with date syrup. Methods: In this clinical trial, the glycemi...
متن کاملGlycaemic index of selected foodstuffs in healthy persons.
AIMS The aim of this study was to determine glycaemic index (GI) of 10 popular foodstuffs/mixed meals in healthy persons. METHODS Ten tested foodstuffs and glucose standard were consumed in three replicates in the course of a defined 9-day meal plan: puffed rice squares with chocolate, dark chocolate, white bread, honey and glucose for breakfast (at 7 a.m.) and dinner (at 8 p.m.); pasta with ...
